Use a Licensed Builder

The very first bit of advice that we'll share is that you hire a licensed builder or remodeler. Click here to see a list of licensed builders who are members of our association. The licensed builder has been tested on his or her building or remodeling knowledge or has proven past experience in the trade. A licensed builder knows the proper building codes for your area. They also know what permit and inspection requirements may exist in your area and are willing to work with you and the various subcontractors to make sure that everyone does their job in a timely and efficient manner. A licensed builder makes sure the job is completed the way it should be. In other words, a licensed builder is the manager of the construction project and your link to the local code official and the project's subcontractors. Unless you are building or remodeling the project yourself, its the law in Mississippi that you use a licensed builder.

To find out if a builder is licensed, search on the Mississippi State Board of Contractors website or call 800-880-6161.

Some builders seek an additional qualification to distinquish themselves by becoming Certified Professional Builders. These builders are not only licensed with the Mississippi Board of Contractors, but they are enrolled in continuing education programs to stay in touch with current technologies and trends.

The Certified Professional Building Program is an exciting program created by the Mississippi Housing Institute. The following GHHBA members have achieved Certified Professional Builder Cody Albright>, Lee Everett, Craig Flanagan, Kyle Hamlett,Rocky Hash, Richard HiattDennis Pierce, David Saulters, Murray Waldron, Patrick Ward, and Burt Williamson.
